Bo French Tosses Hat into Ring for RRC
after Stepping Down as Local GOP Chair

Wealthy Fort Worth Republican Bo French - the most controversial elected official in the Lone Star State without rival - resigned as the local party leader on Wednesday when he launched a bid for the statewide position that Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Jim Wright is seeking again in 2026.
French acknowledged that the RRC is responsible for the regulation of the oil and gas industry in Texas. But the now-former Tarrant County GOP chair gave the impression that he would have even bigger fish to fry if elected a year from now to the three-member commission.
"This will be the best way that I can defend Texas, stop the Islamic invasion, and defeat the left," French said in a post on X. The RRC contender wasted no time taking shots at Muslims, China, environmentalists, the LGBTQ community and others who he views as threats to the country and the state.
"He has fought the radical Left relentlessly, refusing to cave to pressure," the French campaign declared in a statement that the candidate attached to the social media announcement.
French stepped down as the Tarrant Republican Party chair more than three months after Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick joined a chorus of local GOP officials and lawmakers in condemning the local GOP chief for posting a poll with a question on whether Jews or Muslims were bigger threats to the U.S. Patrick demanded that French resign immediately after the post in June.
Whether French's decision to quit as the local party chair was a belated response to the lieutenant governor or not is up for debate. But French touted achievements during a highly-turbulent 18 month stint as the Tarrant Republican chairman - claiming credit for a record fundraising haul during that time and a "historic turnaround" in the 2024 election when Donald Trump carried the county and Republicans wrestled a constable post from the Democrats.
Trump defeated Democrat Kamala Harris by 5 points in Tarrant County last fall with almost 52 percent of the vote. Former President Joe Biden beat Trump there four years before by one fifth of one point with 49.3 percent of the vote. French was elected as the local party boss in the primary election in 2024 when he ran unopposed.
"From local nonprofits supporting the invasion of Texas to DEI, transgenderism, and Islamic radicalism, Chairman French refuses to back down," the campaign asserted.
"With Iran and radical Islamists attacking our allies in the Middle East, the Chinese Communist Party pushing its agenda worldwide, and the radical Green New Scam artists waging war on domestic energy production, our state needs a new leader who will fight back," French added.
Wright, who owns an oil field servicing company in South Texas, was elected to a six-year term on the RRC in 2020 when he beat Democrat Chrysta Castaneda by 9 points with 53 percent of the vote. Wright can expect to have the lion's share of the industry that the commission oversees in his camp for his first re-election race.
Major oil and gas forces in Texas fear that a commissioner like French would be unpredictable and impossible to control or to influence. Wright supporters will include the powerful Texas Senate president, who sought to distance himself from French in the voltaic wake of the Jews versus Muslims poll.
"Bo French’s words do not reflect my values nor the values of the Republican Party," Patrick said at the time. "Antisemitism and religious bigotry have no place in Texas."
French lost bids for the Texas House in 2016 and 2018 when he tried without success to oust veteran GOP State Rep. Charlie Geren of Fort Worth in the primary election. Geren defeated French by 16 points in their first encounter before beating him by 14 points two years later.
